Music Notes – December 7

Again, I am grateful to you all for your work this week. I hope that you are all drinking lots of water and getting sleep.

Tonight, we will be unmasking when on stage, so PLEASE really focus on your words, words, words (diction, diction, diction).

Wexford Carol

  • ALL – Please overdo the articulation; More words! Final consonants!!

Shady Grove

  • Intro. – it will be doubled (2 rounds of the refrain)
  • All – Reminder, only David sings the first chorus
  • David – we are going to embed you into the band for this song

Didn’t Leave Nobody But the Baby

  • S/A – Make sure you are listening . We were not together even before we began moving to exit.
  • Jane, Jan and Jen – can you stay more-or-less in place while others join you on the 2nd round.
  • SL singers – please stop singing as you exit

New Britain/Promised Land

  • ALL – watch Andrea and me please… we were not together.
  • S/T – you need to be ready to start on v. 2 of New Britain
  • ALL – During the run, there didn’t seem to be much contrast between the 2 verses and following refrains. SAT verse and following refrain should be lighter.

Come Thou Fount

  • ALL – Be ready, the tempo is set… you need to be on top of the tempo as you enter to sing.
  • SR – Jan and Jennie got trapped and didn’t get to SR group. They are aware and fixing already so probably doesn’t need to be in notes but I wanted you to know that we were on it.

Alleluia

  • Note – It was still a bit hard to hear Jan on the chant – particularly the first couple Alleluia’s. Chris Simon may be late today – if he is not there he has arranged with Jane Bloodworth to start and cut off the bells.
  • Bell players – I have asked sound to turn up the monitor on the brass stand so we will need to know whether that helps tonight.

Twelve Days

  • ALL – My true love SENT to me.
  • Audience singers – If you are going into the audience, make sure you know the actions for each of the verses.
  • Middle group – what is the motion for “3 French Hens”?

Auld Lang Syne – Choral Versions

  • ALL – Then THERE’S a hand …

Auld Lang Syne – Audience Version

  • ALL – … for Auld Lang Syne, my DEAR …

Rorate

  • Measures 22 and 40 – Altos, no breath between beat 3 and 4 (descending eighth note run), S/T/B – lift between beats 3 and 4.
  • ALL – On the final verse, could you move forward a bit so that the volume can increase?

<> Susan, Jan and I have been pretending we’re drinking a fine French wine — probably doesn’t ‘read’ but that’s the only suggestion I remember getting.

Sorry — my reply was in response to the question,
“Middle group – what is the motion for ‘3 French Hens’?”
