SPEAKERS IN IMMIGRANT SCENE
Pick up and heighten the feeling in these scenes— you’re basically telling the immigrant story of every group that’s come to America. We will talk about working as an ensemble on Wednesday. The stage picture looks beautiful!
CHORUS Nice entrance into Star in the East, let’s talk about how you feel on that entrance. The people who join the immigrants onstage are the people who have followed and made homes in a new land, and become part of the fabric of this rich quilt that is our country. You come in proud, and with each new group that joins, we are adding to the diversity and beauty of our country. There is strength and beauty in numbers, which is why it is such a triumph to tell the child that Christmas is not a sad time.
CHORUS Think about the difference between Star in the East and Allelulia. What are the different feelings to these two songs? Bring that to your bodies and your breathing. Star in the East is more about hope springing from community and family, and Alleluia is the discovering that after the darkness there is light, after the night there is morning.
BELLS good job at getting up to brass platform
BELLS Sort out who goes up onto the platform first.
BREAKIN’ UP CHRISTMAS should feel exciting! We are inside now, and setting up for the big Christmas party! It should be exciting to see the decorations and get ready.
CEILIDH Move whole ceilidh dance downstage. We will take a look at this on Wednesday.
12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS People facing the tiers, if there are a lot of audience members there you can go further up the steps.
12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS People in the audience should stay in the house until the song has ended, or until the Mummers music has started if possible.
CHORUS Everyone can yell “The Mummers! The Mummers!” when you hear their music.
CHORUS Did everyone who needed a chair for watching the Mummers play get one?
MUMMERS decide on a key for the song and practice it together
SIGN HOLDERS You did great tonight! We will work on coordinating this better, and we will have a set of signs for both sides. Stay down low and to the side when holding up signs. One person should hold the signs in order, and a second person should take them away or hand them back if needed.
JUNKANOO PARADE you were all awesome tonight!
CHORUS Please get out of the way of the Junkanoo parade.
CHORUS In order for Auld Lang Syne blocking to work, you will need to stand shoulder to shoulder.
CHORUS Don’t over sing in Auld Lang Syne audience sing. Move into Rorate with a great deal of satisfaction. You get to sing one last song for the audience!
CHORUS Don’t rush offstage in Sussex Mummers. Take a second to breathe, decide which side you’re going to (go to the same side every night), and don’t forget to hold your skirts.
CHORUS We will block the curtain call on Thursday night. The tradition is that the chorus breaks the fourth wall and makes their way into the lobby after the show ends. Decide if you’d like to do that or not, you’ll have about 5-10 minutes to greet friends and family in costume if you’d like.
TEEN CHORUS
WALLY Gather Mummers SFX pieces.
